HOTEL IL PERLO PANORAMA INVITES TO THE EXPOSITION URBAN SCENARIES – COMO VILLA OLMO
- June 28 to November 16
RITRATTI DI CITTA’. URBAN SCENERIES.
RITRATTI DI CITTA’. URBAN SCENERIES, a project of City of Como, steered by Flaminio Gualdoni, investigates and puts on show more than a hundred years of art, social and cultural history in an exhibition that is the first of its kind to look at the city through the eyes of artists who continue to draw on it for inspiration and to interpret what it means to live there and to share the urban experience itself.
With the very generous collaboration of collectors and institutions from all over Italy and Switzerland, it has been uniquely possible to bring together in Como works from foundations, archives and private collections. Some of the works have never been seen in public before and one of the sculptures, the Pietrarubbia Group – il Tutto, was created especially for the exhibition by the great sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro.
There are over 60 works on show including paintings, sculptures and photographs that take the visitor on a journey from the futurism of Boccioni, Balla and Depero, through the dream world of the metaphysical works of De Chirico, the poetic perplexity of Sironi the architectural abstractions of Soldati and Galli to the post Second World War avant-garde (Cavaliere, Merz, Schifano, Tadini, Adami and Rotella), to the master of “architectural painting”, like that of La Pietra, Cantafora, Ico Parisi and Francesco Somaini and authors such as Fontana, Basilico, Ghirri and Galimberti, thanks to whom photography too becomes a medium of intellectual and poetic interpretation of place. Finally, then, on to the most recent generations of Chiesi to Costa, Guaitamacchi to Presicce and other young artists for whom painting and photography forcefully express the current crisis of the image of the city.
Ritratti di Città. Urban sceneries is a unique occasion of its kind to view a broad spectrum of styles and representations of the city, some analysing its meaning, some describing visionary flights on its significance and an existential unease in the face of the subject of Urban sceneries on show in Villa Olmo to narrate and mirror the history, the society and the life of the city all through the twentieth century and up to the present day.
HOTEL IL PERLO PANORAMA – HERE WHAT A CYCLING BLOG FROM NORWAY POSTED a MONTH AGO
Cycling Blog from Norway BHX BLOGG posted in June 2014 this wonderful article, after their stage…
Day 9, Passo del Ghisallo and Muro di Sormano
Cycling in Bellagio on Lake Como is a pleasure. Rarely have I been to a nicer place, and with the bike this is really worth a visit. We were only one night here, but would have liked more.It will be at the next opportunity. First of all, an important presentation of an incredibly perfect place to stay for cyclists.
HOTEL IL PERLO BIKE HOTEL, Bellagio / Lake Como
Bellagio is a small town that sits in the beautiful Lake Como. This is a wonderful place and just perfect for cyclists (and others), and therefore worthy of a separate article. ”Il Perlo Panorama” is located in the hills above Bellagio, in the midst of the steep part of a famous climbing bike – Passo del Ghisallo.
We rented our bikes at “Hotel il Perlo Panorama”, at good price and great service from Carlo and the others who run this place. If you are flying to Milan, only 1.5 hours drive to Bellagio and then you have the basis for a great cycling holiday in northern Italy. We got good prices on renting totally fine Kemo carbon bikes with 50/34 crankset and 11-29 cassette at the back. Suitable for biking on steep slopes, and a lot of up and down. Shimano 105 gear system works fine.
Italians are passionate about cycling and Carlo talked about bike with great enthusiasm. We heard Lampre, pro team that inhabit Lecco only a few mil away. He told of cycle routes in the area, records slopes and responded enthusiastically to everything we asked for.
Fabio Negri is an ex-professional cyclist in 29 years working for the hotel as bike guide. He also works in the technical team Lampre and participated there as an employee during the Giro d’Italia this year. We were offered to have him on a bike ride as a guide, but it did not fit in our plan this time
Passo del Ghisallo
Details: Length 10.6 km ….. 600 meters in total …. 5.2% rise in average (incl. long downhill about the middle of going down the average).
This climb is used in the Giro di Lombardia for many years and is a well-known climbing bike in this region of Italy. I rode this today, along with the climb up the Muro di Sormano. These two in combination were told that will be next year’s ground speed in the Giro. What a circus it will be that case up tight Muro di Sormano at the end.
Carlo told that Bettini has record of Ghisallo with 19.23 min. That is an average speed of well over 30 km / h at a distance of more than 1 mil, 550 meters up…

HOTEL IL PERLO PANORAMA INVITES WALKING ALONG LAKE COMO – GREENWAY del Lario
If you are on holiday in Bellagio, you love to walk and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Lake Como, we announce this exciting initiative that will allow you to discover the location right in front of our city: the Greenway project, a walk from Colonno to Cadenabbia di Grignate for discovering villas, gardens, architecture and ancient villages. The greenway of the lake stretches for over 10 kilometers through the towns of Colonno, Sala Comacina Ossuccio, Lenno, Mezzegra, Tremezzo and Griante, in part just above the villages and in the lake.
Along the greenway allows you to discover the peculiarities of the territory: the historical villages, the rural sights, the scenery of the lake, the buildings and grounds of merit. This is not an isolated path, but a path that follows and develops on the existing access network.
For this you can either follow it completely, in about 3 hours and a half, and take on the track at different points of intersection with the road network and public services (bus and boat navigation, which can also be used for the return).
The description of the route has been so divided into 5 sections, with an average travel time of 40 minutes.
- 1° tratto: Colonno – Sala Comacina
- 2° tratto: Sala Comacina – Ossuccio
- 3° tratto: Ossuccio – Imbarcadero di Lenno
- 4° tratto: Lenno – Bolvedro di Tremezzo
- 5° tratto: Bolvedro – Cadenabbia
To easily follow the trail you can follow the metal plates with the logo of the greenway of the lake, the trail of stone, placed along the lines promiscuous open to road traffic, the directional signs that are located at each intersection.
Check the website http://www.greenwaydellago.it to discover all paths. And … good walk!

Going All In on Cycling
The emergence of bike hotels and poker in Italy
There’s absolutely no doubt that Italy is one of the most stunning and picturesque countries in the world. From the bridges and waterways of Venice to the active volcanoes and Greek ruins of Sicily, thousands of intrepid travelers from across the globe head over to Italian locales every year to admire these attractions for themselves. Indeed, it seems like every region and province in Italy is brimming with enchanting curiosities waiting to be discovered and explored. It’s also no secret that Italy is a perfect destination for adventurous cyclists from around the world. After all, the Giro d’Italia is one of the three most prestigious three-week-long Grand Tours (along with the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España) in the international cycling landscape.
Although there’s a diverse selection of hotspots for cycling trips all throughout Italy, the rising prominence of the bike hotel has emerged as a slightly different twist on the Italian cycling experience. Italian bike hotels not only provide a sense of luxury and hospitality to the usual group cycling tours, they also cater to cyclists across all experience levels and backgrounds. Whether it’s an expert recommendation for renting a road bike to a full-blown guided tour with former professional cyclists, bike hotels seamlessly combine personalized service with the thrill of cycling in one of the most gorgeous countries on Earth.
For many cycling fans in Italy and around the world, there’s no denying that the streets of Sanremo are one of the most popular cycling destinations in the country. Hordes of fans cheer on the finishing riders of the La Classica di Primavera, also known as the annual Milan – San Remo race. Incidentally, there’s at least one incident that involved a pair of professional poker players embarking on a grueling 118-kilometer trek along the famous streets of Sanremo. Bertrand Grospellier and Eugene Katchalov cycled to Sanremo from Cannes as part of a prop bet made for the World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP).
In recent years, Italy has emerged as a haven for world-class poker tournaments. The European Poker Tour (EPT) has held high-stakes tournaments in both Sanremo and Campione d’Italia, a commune of the province of Como in the Lombardy region. Furthermore, the Casino di Venezia has been a long-standing destination of the Italian leg of the World Poker Tour (WPT) circuit for the past few years. Interviews from WPT Venice participants can be viewed from the YouTube Partypoker channel. Italian upstart Andrea Dato recently put forth a breakout performance when he defeated English poker powerhouse Sam Trickett to win the Main Event of the WPT Venice Carnival held at the Casino di Venezia on March 10, 2014.
