The stage of the 2012 Giro d’Italia to be run entirely within Lombardia returns to a technically interesting climb known as Pian dei Resinelli, a 1200 m a.s.l.m. hill outside Lecco at the foot of the Grignetta massif.
Starting from Busto Arsizio, this stage has been strategically scheduled to capture Sunday May 20’s prime time audience and enrich the rankings with another touch of character, courtesy of this pre-Alps ascent.

First included in the nation’s most prestigious stage race exactly 50 years ago, Pian dei Resinelli provided the prologue to the next day’s surprise on the way to the finish line in Casale Monferrato, Piemonte, when Franco Balmamion came out first from a long line of challengers and won the pink jersey, the first of various successes that carried him to the top of the rankings in 1962 and 1963.
Riders in search of the perfect two-wheel vacation at Bellagio’s Hotel Perlo-Panorama can now pedal up to the Resinelli Plains guided by precious information from the staff, as yet another history-making cycling climb offered by the lakeside from Como to Lecco and yet another unforgettable moment in their reinvigorating vacation.

AN OFFER OF SPECTACULAR ASCENTS IN THE MAKING

With the maximum attention to both technical value and the most moments in road racing history Hotel Perlo is developing new itineraries that help give its own international riding clientele the satisfaction of putting themselves to the test on the same roads they see faced by the world’s greatest racers on tv.

The final 80 kilometers of the Giro di Lombardia, which from 2004 to 2010 ended here at Como’s Trento e Trieste Lungolago lakeside promenade, have by now become one of the cyclist’s favorites among all the excursions proposed.
From Colle Ghisallo, scaled from the steeper Bellagio side towards Magreglio and its Sanctuary dedicated to Mary, the Patron Saint of Cyclists, the asphalt ribbon winds upward in the expression of a perfect theorem of difficulty along both the Civiglio and San Fermo della Battaglia inclines with challenging descents in between. Along the way, riders will certainly recall the exploits of Philippe Gilbert and Damiano Cunego as they summon up that

  healthy drive to push themselves further with only their own physical and mental resources – perhaps with other traveling companions met just the other day – in the direction of health-giving emotions and a word or two in regard to specific materials and training, without ever forgetting that these are the things that give the force to face with renewed enthusiasm the various difficulties of daily life after leaving the Perlo’s doors.

Giro For Ghisallo

The starting line in Herning in the fresh Danish air features numerous friends of the Perlo-Panorama Hotel ready to enliven Giro d’italia Number 95 and bring the always invigorating lakeside breeze on the road to the pink jersey. Prior to checking in at the hotel soon, Roberto Damiani will be riding in Lampre-Isd livery with the well-matched pair of Michele Scarponi and Damiano Cunego ready to soon go their separate ways in the overall ranking and the quest for daily gratification.

Further down the line, Domenico Pozzovivo, another future guest here in Bellagio for events you’ll be hearing more about in months to come, will be showcasing the splendid form that enabled his recent success in the Giro del Trentino and justifiable pink jersey dreams: providing support at his side in a Colnago-Csf-Bardiani jersey we’ll see an another seasoned veteran, Angelo Pagani, a habitué of road training in and around Bellagio.

A RACE WITHOUT GHISALLO

A glance at the 2012 route reveals the continuing absence of the Ghisallo, a technically impeccable climb that gives Perlo guests excellent opportunities to improve their climbing skills during hotel stays supported by technical assistance in ongoing development thanks to winning choices in experimentation.
The Comasco Hill’s history probably merits greater presence in the big races than the limited use it sees today only in the Giro di Lombardia, the early autumn rematch that follows months of intense challenge.
On an itinerary that offers views of the Matterhorn before winding on through the legendary and articulated pedaling massacre through the Dolomiti over Passo Giau on the way to Cortina d’Ampezzo, continuing with even tougher finish lines like Alpe di Pampeago and the Stelvio Pass, Ghisallo would certainly not be out of place.

By no means an invitation to bring our riders to the point of complete exhaustion, we’d only like to set an even more enticing stage for come-from-behind victories and exploits in a context where many international observers are more focused on the Tour de France that would be more propitiatory than ever for surprise performances by courageous youngsters willing to forego tactical considerations.
The year’s first races have especially rewarded Italians riding under little obligation to place high at all costs: a step in the right direction for a sport obliged to change gear and for such reason not averse to trying something new: the intense thrill of climbing to the top from the Bellagio side that many racing aficionados have already had the privilege of experiencing.

If you’re in Bellagio you can not miss the opportunity to “go shopping” between farms, and farmer’s market in search of authentic flavors and genuine. Here are some tips for buying local produce and experience different and exciting.

We start with a great bottle of oil, a perfect souvenir to take home …
The D.O.P. Lakes of Lombardi “Lario” characterizes the olive oil produced on the slopes of the lake. In Bellagio you can buy olive oil of the Agricultural Sancassani Agnelli. Inside each bottle is enclosed in the work and passion to cultivate these trees in an area not flat like Bellagio, on the steep slopes cleared of Limonta.
The oil of the area is classified by experts according to the following: a yellow-green color, a fruity light, fruity flavor with a possible presence of slightly bitter and spicy, suitable for enriching any kind of food.

Another excellent product at Km 0 are jams at the farm “I Drenn” (drenn in local dialect means “berry”). “I Drenn” produces cheese, yogurt, jam with raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, apricots and plums. All fruit is grown locally and handmade without preservatives and dyes. The sale is only directly in the premises.

Do not miss the dairy products of the Social Cooperative of Bellagio. The cooperative was formed in 1933 and started operating in 1934 with the aim to collect, process and market the products obtained from processing of milk from the stables of the members, all farmers who own a total of about two hundred cows, for six or seven months are kept in open grazing. Among the main products include the cream of fresh centrifuge that achieves our national butter. There is a huge choice of cheeses: the lean Bellagio starts to eat after a curing period of 40/50 days, and is used for the preparation of dishes such as polenta uncia Larian, and touched the pizzoccheri, semi-fat of the Bellagio, Bellagio fat that is put on sale after 50/60 days of ripening, and is a great table cheese, caciotta fresh cremini.

And if your passion is sweeter flavors you can buy “Gagi”honey produced by Maria Giuseppina Gandola on Mount San Primo, which has about one hundred and fifty hives from which they derive various types of honey season and its derivatives: chestnut honey, acacia , lime, wildflower honey, honeydew, pollen, propolis and royal jelly. These products are offered to the public directly at the farm where it was fitted close to local honey making a local sale.

If you like adventure and outdoors, this trail is for you. The tour touches Visgnola – Belvedere – Makallè – Chevrio – Regina Pacis – Cascina Giacinta – Pietra Lentina – Parco monte S. Primo. Journey time 3 hours 25 min. It ‘been traced by expert hikers and has a difficulty level E (hiking).

It strats from Visgnola to gets into the park of Monte San Primo, passing through villages and forests, with a total climb of 785 meters uphill.

The walk takes about three hours and twenty minutes, and is described in details, making sure even the small details that might escape the novice hikers.
In fact, as first advice we tell you that the path may be slippery, depending on the rainfall of the past days, but a good pair of footwear is highly preferable.

Also during the walk you will meet gates that block the path, because the cattle is free grazing, we recommend that you close them well after your shift.

You just have to get it running, a good backpack and if you prefer a snack for a snack or breakfast in nature.

An unprecedented discovery of Vittorio Sgarbi Bellagio brought to the attention of art lovers. During a visit to the church of San Giacomo, with great surprise, he discovers a piece of art for his unique style: a painting that attaches quickly to critical Orsola Maddalena Caccia, a nun, a painter, but surprisingly little-known figure, the daughter of Moncalvo best known painter.

For this purpose we propose the exhibition “Orsola Maddalena Caccia. Singular story of a monk painter “, organized by the Foundation Cosso, to be held in Castle Miradolo, San Secondo di Pinerolo from March 3 to July 29, 2012.

The exhibition, curated by Paola Caretta and Daniela Magnetti and is the first devoted entirely to the painter Orsola Maddalena Caccia and aims to shed light on a remarkable but little-known figure of the seventeenth-century art scene, the author of an extraordinary number of works significant religious and still lifes, which effectively inaugurated the genre in Piedmont.

There will be on display over 70 works that represent the entire chronological journey of the artist, from the first practice with her father, mostly religious in nature, the successful revivals of his later work, including some impressive altarpieces of extraordinary beauty. The paintings come from private collections, churches and government agencies including Castello Sforzesco and Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan, the Diocesan Museum of Mantua, Palazzo Bianco in Genoa.
